How it works

3 steps. No setup.

TrickyBird is a web proxy, not a VPN. It opens 1 site at a time in your browser tab, rather than routing your whole device through a tunnel, and there is no app to install.

  1. Type an address or search

Drop in any web address, or just search for whatever you want to open.

  2. We open it for you

TrickyBird fetches the site for you, so the request to the site goes out from our server, not from your browser.

  3. Browse like normal

The site opens in the same tab, on one of our own addresses rather than the site’s. A bookmark or a link you copy from that tab points at TrickyBird, not at the page.

Why TrickyBird

Private, with nothing to set up.

TrickyBird sits between you and the sites you visit, so what you browse stays your business.

  • Your network sees TrickyBird

Your network sees a connection to TrickyBird, and the address of the site you open is carried encoded rather than spelled out.

  • No account, minimal logs

Nothing to sign up for. There is no account, name, or email for a log to point back to, and the access log we keep is gone within 48 hours.

  • Works on real sites

Pages, images, video and sign-ins keep working, not just plain text.

  • Nothing to install

Runs in any browser, on any device. No app, no setup.

Help

Frequently asked questions

Is TrickyBird free?

Yes. TrickyBird is free to use: there is no payment step and no card to enter. Paste a link and the site opens in your browser tab.

Does this work on a locked-down device with no admin rights?

Usually yes: there is nothing to install and no admin rights to ask for. TrickyBird runs in the browser the device already has, so a managed Chromebook or a work laptop opens a site like any other machine. The unblock guide walks through it step by step.

Which sites work through TrickyBird?

Many major sites render and play video through TrickyBird. Rather than promise a list, we run live checks and publish the result: the status page names the sites those checks currently open, with the date we last looked.

Is using a web proxy legal?

Usually, yes. Reaching a public site your network blocks is more a question of that network’s or your employer’s rules than of the law. Do not use TrickyBird to get around paywalls, logins, or copyright protection, or for anything unlawful. This is general information, not legal advice. Some countries restrict circumvention tools, so check the guide on proxies and the law, and the policy of the network you are on.

The site sent me back here. What happened?

A session lasts 60 minutes, and when it ends the tab comes back here, so opening the site again starts a fresh one. Opening another site from the console also ends the session you had. See what a session is, and the 3 limits that can stop it. If neither fits what you saw, tell us what happened and we will look.
